If the quality of tape is poor, the flaps will slip from under the tape or the tape will get dislodged. This phenomenon is called the Shear Effect. The BOPP Tape Shear Tester is an equipment to test the the quality to tape with reference to its resistance to shear. Principle : This equipment is designed as per ASTM D 3654 wherein a specimen area of 1 inch x 1 inch is affixed on a standard surface and a constant shear load of 1 Kg is applied to it. The time taken by the tape to dislodge itself from the test surface is noted. Significance : The Shear resistance of BOPP Tape is extremely essential in order for it to perform in the desired manner. If the tape cannot hold on to the carton then it has lost its purpose.
