Crush Resistance Tester

This equipment confirms to TAPPI standards and is suitable to test the following :

  • Edgewise Compressive Test (ECT) of Corrugated Board
  • Ring Crush Test (RCT) of Paper Board.
  • Flat Crush Test (FCT) of Corrugated Board.
  • Pin Adhesion Test (PAT) of Corrugated Board

Significance :

For Edgewise Compressive Test (ECT)
(Confirms to TAPPI T 811, 838, 839, 841, 843)

Research has shown that the edgewise compressive strength of specimens with flutes vertical, in combination with the flexural stiffness of the combined board and box dimensions, relates to the top-to-bottom compressive strength of vertically fluted corrugated fiberboard shipping containers.

This machine may also be used for comparing the edgewise compressive strength of different lots of
similar combined boards or for comparing different material combinations.

For Ring Crush Test (RCT)
(Confirms to TAPPI T 818, 822)

The edgewise compression strength of corrugated board is the principal element in determining the dynamic compression strength of the container made from that board.

Fiberboard shipping containers are frequently subjected to loads which are resisted by compression strength, making this property an important measure of the performance characteristics of corrugated board, and useful in controlling the manufacturing process and in measuring the quality of the finished product.

Since edgewise compression strength can be estimated by a summation of the ring crush strengths of the liners and medium, this test becomes a useful one for the corrugated boxmaker.

For Flat Crush Test (FCT)
(Confirms to TAPPI T 825)

Flat crush is a measure of the flute rigidity of corrugated board.

A high flat crush value indicates a combination of good flute formation and adequate strength medium.

Low flat crush can indicate a number of conditions.
Among these are low strength medium, leaning flutes, and/or crushed flutes.

For Pin Adhesion Test (PAT)
(Confirms to TAPPI T 821)

Good adhesion of the corrugated medium to its facings is important in obtaining high quality corrugated board and boxes.

The pin adhesion test provides a means of determining the nature and strength of the bond formed during the combining operation and may be used to detect some manufacturing defects, such as poor adhesive penetration, spotty adhesion, and containerboard with a low internal bond strength.

This test will measure the force required to separate selectively either the inside or outside facing of corrugated board.
